The content strategy is a important building block of online marketing. In order for a website to be easily found on Google, one cannot avoid the creation of unique content. This content must be editorially high quality and tailored to the target audience, address the relevant keywords and meet the search intent, and ideally ensure a high conversion rate – so that the recipient ultimately becomes a customer or buyer.

The most important categories of content creation at a glance

When creating high-quality content, there are several important aspects to consider in order to please the recipient of a website, as well as Google. We have summarized some key categories for a successful content strategy:

  1. Quality: Editorially high-quality texts with impeccable grammar and spelling, linguistic sensitivity, and text coherence
  2. Question of search intent: A good text answers the user’s question and is aligned with the search intent.
  3. Topic: The topic should not only be superficially touched upon through the content but should go into depth. The topic should be tailored to the target audience. When selling walkers, it is relatively unhelpful to talk about numbers and statistics. Rather, questions should be answered that a potential walker buyer genuinely asks, such as:
  • What requirements must my walker meet?
  • What costs should I expect and will I receive subsidies from the health insurance?
  • Which walker accessories are interesting for me?

For example, if one wants to answer the search intent regarding the question of “costs for a walker,” one can assume that there are many other aspects that the user is interested in.

  1. Keywords: Keywords are particularly important for the content strategy. To optimize the website’s content, a detailed keyword analysis is created in advance, keyword research is conducted, a keyword cluster including prioritization is developed, and a seeding list is created. Part of the planning also includes a competitor analysis and the examination of keyword density.
  2. Content Usability: Usability is an important criterion, as it often determines the click and bounce rates as well as the conversion rate. Only if the page is easy to navigate, the text is understandable, meaningful, and satisfying, and leads to the goal without detours, will the user stay on the page. In addition to a clearly structured text with meaningful headings, media such as images, tables, and videos are also part of the content strategy. They help to break up the text and provide visual assistance. Additional media must also be optimized in terms of content by providing images with alt attributes, a descriptive image URL, and captions.
  3. Technical Aspects: In the end, it’s not just about the right content, but also about the technical performance of the website and a well-structured HTML. The TITLE tag and the META description are also important elements of a holistic optimization, as they are read by the search engine crawler and are important ranking factors. Title and Meta should summarize the content briefly and concisely, encourage clicks to the website, and address the relevant keywords.

The various aspects that are relevant for an ideal content strategy illustrate that creating high-quality content requires solid know-how and expertise in the field of search engine optimization.

Google’s Requirements: The Power of Good Content Strategies

From Google’s perspective, the content of a website should primarily be relevant to the user. Therefore, the Google algorithm is designed to evaluate websites as high-quality or low-quality based on various criteria and to determine their ranking and thus their visibility in the SERPs.

Regarding content, the Google algorithm places particular emphasis on Unique Content, i.e., unique content that provides added value for the user. Poor content is characterized for Google, for example, by keyword stuffing and duplicate content, leading to a high Bounce Rate of the website, to name just a few ranking factors. It is therefore even more important to be aware of all the important ranking factors in the content strategy.

The Importance of Content Strategy for SEO

The right content strategy is a crucial success factor in search engine optimization. In the first step, the content audit serves as an inventory and evaluation of the existing content. Based on the existing foundation, a content strategy should be developed in the second step that meaningfully coordinates the planning, creation, and implementation of content and defines a consistent text structure. To achieve the perfect result, all departments of the online marketing agency work together in this process to leverage potential at all levels.
