Networks and web analytics count differently. The network sees only its own channel and usually attributes a sale to the last publisher. Web analytics looks at all channels and, depending on the attribution model, assigns the same sale to one channel or splits it across several. Both views are valid, but they lead to different figures.
This is why a tracking switch matters. It determines which channel a sale is reported to when several channels were involved. Without a switch, several networks and advertising channels report the same sale as their success, and in the worst case you pay commission twice. Our knowledge article on the cookie and tracking switch explains how the attribution works.
On request, we combine the affiliate data with your existing web analytics. You then see how affiliate interacts with SEO, ads and newsletters and where channels overlap. The data can be brought together in a marketing dashboard that shows all channels at a glance.
